Iran launches missile and drone barrage on Dubai, Kuwaiti tanker hit

 

At least five explosions were reported in Dubai on Tuesday morning as residents fled to shelters, Euronews journalists reported. The UAE authorities said they were "actively engaging" with the threat.

The UAE defence ministry said in a statement on X that the country's air defences were "actively engaging with missiles and UAV threats."

Four people were injured by debris from an interception that fell on residential houses in southern Dubai, authorities said.

"Authorities confirm that they are responding to an incident caused by debris from a successful interception that fell on residential houses in southern Dubai, resulting in property damage and minor injuries to four Asian nationals," the Dubai Media Office said on X.

Reports first came in of residents rushing to underground shelters as the blasts appeared to be different from air defence intercepts or sonic booms, or any previous Iranian strikes on Dubai.

UAE authorities also said that firefighters had extinguished the blaze on a Kuwaiti oil tanker at Dubai Port which was targeted in the attack, but said there was no oil spill. According to the Dubai government's Media Office, the ship's 24 crew members are safe.

Tehran's IRGC-affiliated Tasnim news agency confirmed Iran had launched missile and drone attacks on the UAE on Tuesday.

On Monday, Iran's judiciary said it revoked the residency permits of 1,200 Emirati nationals living in Iran in response to what it described as a hostile action by the UAE, ordering them to leave the country within the next week.
